Vertigo When Lying Down

  • 2 min read

You are going to bed at last after a long day. The second you are in bed with your head on the pillow, the room begins to rotate. Sound familiar? You're not alone.

Vertigo when lying down is very common and affects millions of individuals every year.

It’s disorienting, terrifying and can even make it difficult to roll over in bed. Knowing what’s going on is the first step to finding relief.

Why Am I Dizzy When Turning Over in Bed?

Those loose crystals roll around when you change head position. They bump against tiny hair-like structures that detect motion.

Your balance system goes haywire. Common triggers include rolling onto your side, sitting up quickly, or tilting your head back. Even dizziness upon bending over can set it off.

The largest risk factor is age. BPPV typically affects people older than 50.

Other Vertigo Symptoms You Might Experience:

Nausea when lying down often accompanies the spinning sensation. Some people vomit from the intensity. Balance problems persist even when you're standing. You may feel dizzy or off-balance during the day. Your eyes feel dizzy as rapid, involuntary movements occur.

These eye movements help chiropractors identify which ear canal contains the problematic crystals.

How Upper Cervical Help Vertigo When Lying Down?

Your neck and inner ear are closely linked. The upper part of your spine contains nerves that help control balance and how you sense space. Faults in this area can also cause an exacerbation of dizziness symptoms. Chiropractic adjustments restore proper alignment. This will make your nerves work better in processing balance signals correctly.

One of gentle, specific adjustments can be very helpful to many patients. Chiropractors may be able to do some specific moves that will help get those wayward crystals in position.

Upper cervical care works with source of the problem. Help your vestibular system heal naturally through reducing the subluxations that can hinder the result of proper alignment in your spine.
